VXL and Lenovo team up for thin client laptops

Laptop makers VXL and Lenovo have teamed up today to announce two co-branded slimline laptops.

The new devices are the Itona TL412 and TL100. The former is the standard model, while the latter is an entry-level model aimed at making things a bit more affordable.

The TL412 features a 14.1-inch WXGA HD non-reflective display, a 1.86GHz Intel Celeron Dual Core processor, integrated Intel GMA HD graphics, 1GB of DDR3 RAM that can be upgraded to a max of 4GB, 1GB of Flash storage, and Express PC Card Expansion slot. It also comes with a three year warranty as standard.

The TL100 features a 11.6-inch HD widescreen with LED backlight, a 1.0Ghz AMD Athlon Neo processor, a ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics card, 1 GB DDR2 RAM that can be upgraded to a max of 4GB, 1GB of Flash storage, and a 4 in 1 PC Card slot. It comes with a one year warranty as standard, but this can be upgraded to three years.

There will be three and four USB 2.0 ports respectively for the TL100 and TL412, as well as WiFi and Gigabit 10/100/1000 LAN connectivity.

Both models allow a choice of Windowx XPe or Windows Emdedded (WES) operating systems. There are also plans to add Linux as a choice within the next quarter. They also come with XLmanage Workgroup Edition, VXL’s remote management software.

VXL’s VP of Worldwide Sales, Frank Noon, was confident that the new models would sell well: “Industry analysts forecast that the current growth in thin client laptops will continue as a result of the lower purchase and running costs, ease of management and greater security.”

Both laptops will be available from mid-June 2010. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but VXL and Lenovo are promising they will be competitively priced.
