Violent computer games are good for the brain

A team of boffins has worked out that violent computer games are actually good for your brain.

According to the Frontiers in Cognition journal, which we get for the spot the neuron competition, games like Call of Duty and Resident Evil might even make you smarter.

Assistant Professor Dr Lorenza Colzato, of Leiden University’s psychology department, said that not only does the team’s research pour water on the idea that games consoles turn you into a violent psychopath, he is suggesting that they are installed in nursing homes to brain train the elderly.

She said that playing video games helps the natural reflexes, it makes players more responsive and able to switch between different tasks.

She added that if someone likes violent video games it does not mean they will engage in anti-social behaviour.

Skills learned from the video games would help people in fast-paced jobs and could help the elderly fight off the signs of ageing.
