Software giant Microsoft is still hopeful that it can get Halo made into a movie, despite the fact that Hollywood has turned the idea down.
Former Kapiti College student Peter Jackson and his chum Neil Blomkamp were down to do it but suddenly thought District 9 was a better bet.
Frank O’Conner, franchise development director for Microsoft’s dedicated Halo studio 343 Industries, says that Microsoft is still interested in making a movie out of the series.
Apparently Microsoft has written some good stuff to support a movie, although we really hope it was not penned by Steve Ballmer and begins with the phrase “it was a dark and stormy night”. Although if Steve wrote it they would probably be asking Lloyd Grossman to star in the lead role as “Master Chef”.
Microsoft has been developing scripts from Alex Garland, Stuart Beattie, D.B. Weiss and Josh Olson as possible blueprints.
O’Connor also hinted that it might work better on telly rather than the movies.
Redmond is in no hurry so it can wait. But then again so can the viewing public. Below is a list of dire movies which were inspired by good computer games that made garbage movies and should never have seen the light of day. If you have never heard of them you can pat yourself on the back and breath a sigh of relief. Maybe Hollywood has just worked out that a computer game does not work if you translate it to the big screen.
DOA: Dead or Alive
