Google switches date to avoid Apple launch

Google UK has an event called Google Open House, scheduled to take place on the 27th of January.

But it’s now switched the date to the following day to avoid conflict with Apple. Or as the PRs disingenuously put it: “We heard through the grapevine that there may be an important announcement hitting the tech world next Wednesday.”

So what’s this Open House stuff about then? It’s intended to promote Google Chrome – both browser and operating system. For the last few weeks Google has been running a huge Chrome poster campaign on the London Tube.

It will also be an opportunity for tech hacks to get their mitts on Google Nexus One phones.

The event is at Google’s UK office, close to the home of Her Brittanic Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s wee cottage.
