Facebook disables Osama Bin Laden's account

Facebook has disabled an account on the social networking site under the name of al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.

The site posted extremist Islamic content and had garnered over 1000 “fans”.  It is unlikely that Bin Laden was updating his page from a cave in Afghanistan,  as he seems to have lost the ability to poke anyone these days.

A Facebook spokesman said that people often attempt to register fake accounts under the name of famous or infamous people and had a number of technical measures designed to prevent such behaviour.

ABC News reported that the account had posted speeches and audio recordings of Islamic extremists.

Bin Laden discribed himself as the “Prince of Mujahideen” and put in his location as the “mountains of the world”, ABC said.  He also had a wicked score on Mafia Wars and would like to know if you would like to become a fan of Semtex.
