UK government gets hot and bothered about passport breach

The British government has called in the Israeli ambassador to have a word about why Mossad agents – if they were Mossad agents –  used fake UK passports to bump off a Hamas commander in Dubai.

Blighty is jolly proud of its super secure biometric passports which it bought in to keep the Americans happy. They cost an arm and a leg to make too.

Now it seems that Mossad has been using an old trick, of using someone else’s identity, to obtain a blighty passport.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown (pictured)  has also ordered an inquiry into the passports, which bear the names of six British-Israelis who did not have the right picture.

Dubai coppers believe 11 “agents with European passports” killed Palestinian militant Mahmoud al-Mabhouh who was on a holiday where he was buying some nice shiny new weapons.

Israel is not being helpful. Not only is it refusing to say how its agents picked up British passports, it is not even saying its agents were involved in the killing. Of course it is not denying it either.

srael’s foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, told Israeli Army Radio: “There is no reason to think that it was the Israeli Mossad and not some other intelligence service or country up to some mischief.”

Dubai police have confirmed that photographs and signatures on the passports used in Dubai do not match those on passports issued by the UK. Which is jolly annoying because the biometric passports were supposed to mean the end of this sort of thing.
