Teen hacked into 259 companies

Inspector Knacker of the lower Austrian yard has fingered the collar of a 15-year-old student who he thinks hacked into 259 companies over three three months.

According to ZDnet, the kid scanned the internet for vulnerabilities and bugs in websites and databases that he could then exploit. The boy allegedly stole data and published it publicly after breaching the security infrastructure of 259 firms.

When he was bored he would deface company websites and boast about his accomplishments on Twitter

When police knocked on his door, the boy confessed to the attacks.

All the firms were attacked between January 2012 and March 2012, and they were not limited to Austria.

The teen said he carried out the attacks because he was bored and wanted to prove himself.

With a surprising amount of self knowledge for a teen, the boy said he was anti-social, and so looked to the online world for praise and affirmation.

He found a hacker forum that gave members points for successful attacks, and so he went to work. After three months he was in the top 50 hackers of the approximately 2,000 users registered on the forum.

He used hacking tools widely available on the Internet, including software that helped him remain anonymous.

ACK!3STX’s anonymising software let him down, and his IP address was spotted by the Cyber Crime Competence Centre unit.
