Cisco's Chuck RobbinsContinuing cyber attacks may plague enterprises and individuals, but every cloud has a silver lining.

And it’s vendors selling security appliances that are benefiting, with vendor revenues for the first quarter of 2015 amounting to $2.3 billion.

That’s the datum from IDC, which said revenues increased 7.5 percent, year on year, and the 22nd consecutive quarter of revenue growth.

As many as 526,767 units shipped in the quarter and the US accounted for 42.9 percent of revenues in the quarter.

Western European revenues also grew by 9.8 percent in the quarter compared to the same quarter last year, with the UK and Germany accounting for 45 percent of the entire regional market.

The leading five vendors are Cisco, Check Point, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet and Blue Coat. Palo Alto only entered the market in the second half of 2013 and has seen its revenues grow 54.3 percent in the first quarter of 2015, compared to the same quarter last year.
