Qualcomm teams up with Microsoft

qualcomm-paul-jacobs_390x2205Microsoft and chip giant Qualcomm are going to work together to produce low cost Windows Mobile 10 phones and tablets.

That’s according to researchers at Digitimes Research, which believes that Qualcomm is being forced into the move because Mediatek and Spreadtrum are digging into its market share in mainland China.

The analysts said that Qualcomm had a huge 80 percent share of the 4G LTE market in China last year but has been hit by bumps in its roadmap as well as stiff competition.

It’s believed that Microsoft will roll out $80 smartphones in the fourth quarter of this year, making them roughly the same price as cheap Android phones.

Earlier this week, Qualcomm reported disappointing results – largely down to competition from Mediatek and others.
