ITU says half the planet is on the net

ITU broadbandA report from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) estimates that by the end of this year 3.2 billion people will be online.

And of those people, two billion will be in the developing world, although some countries are losing out.

There are currently seven billion mobile subscriptions worldwide, the ITU said.

Intenet user penetration has grown seven fold since the start of the century but four billion people in the developing world are offline.

Mobile broadband penetration now stands at 47 percent, and during this year 69 percent of people worldwide will be able to access 3G mobile broadband.
