Council contemplates Skype for elderly care

cashA cash strapped county council is thinking that elderly people could use Skype instead of arranging personal care visits.

Oxfordshire County Council leader Ian Hudspeth said that the authority is seriously considering the idea.

Talking to the Oxford Mail, Hudspeth said that the elderly are using the internet more and more.

He said the council wouldn’t discriminate against people that didn’t have the technical ability to use Skype, but could use the tech to check on the elderly.

Oxfordshire County Council carries out 34,614 visits every week.
