$5 computer launched

Raspberry Pi ZeroThe Raspberry Pi Foundation said it has introduced the Zero, a computer made in Wales and costing only $5.

The Foundation said it’s a fully fledged member of the Raspberry Pi family and includes a 1GHz ARM 11 core, 512MB of LPDDR2 SDRAM, a micro SD card slot, a mini HDMI socket suitable for 1080p60 video output, micro USB sockets, and a smaller size.

The Zero is 65mm x 30mm x 5mm.

The machine runs Raspbian and other Pi applications including Scratch, Minecraft and Sonic Pi.

It’s available from element 14, the Pi Hut and Pimoroni and in the USA from Adafruit.

The Foundation said it is giving away a free Raspberry Pi Zero on the front of each copy of The MagPi magazine.
