Sir Jony B Good

jony iveKnight of the Rounded Rectangle Sir Jony Ive has been promoted to the chief design officer at Apple.

While we always thought he had that role,  apparently when he had Steve Jobs’ ideas for him he was just senior vice president of design.

The chief design officer is a new position Apple has created especially for the British ex-pat.

Ive will still be in charge of the design of Apple’s hardware products and operating systems. Apparently now he will not have micromanagement of those roles, but can sit at his desk and come up with something new – like a rounded triangle or hexagram.

Apple said that he will have to redesign Apple’s shops to make them worthy religion pilgrimage sites and the company’s new campus. He will even be designing the furniture inside the buildings.

There are rumours that Ive could be set to work on Apple’s rumoured upcoming electric car.

An Apple statement said that Jony is one of the most talented and accomplished designers of his generation, with an astonishing 5,000 design and utility patents to his name.

His new role is a reflection of the scope of work he has been doing at Apple for some time.

“Jony’s design responsibilities have expanded from hardware and, more recently, software UI to the look and feel of Apple retail stores, our new campus in Cupertino, product packaging and many other parts of our company.”
