Student gets €1,650 mobile porn data bill

A hairy palmed red faced student has been slapped with a €1,650 bill after using his mobile phone’s data services to watch and download porn.

The porn fan, hiding under the guise of “Jonathan Organ,” got more than he bargained for when he opened up his phone bill from Irish mobile provider Meteor – to find the huge costs which had been racked up through data charges.

The student told Cork Student News that he thought he was quite safe as he had been told by Meteor staff that he had unlimited internet as part of his package. Thinking through his addiction, he claims to have asked the shop assistant to double check that this was the case.

We called up Meteor who told us: “The data limit and internet conditions are included in your terms and conditions depending on what package you select.

“If we say unlimited then this usually means browsing the net, while there is a cap on downloads.

“We also practice a fair usage policy to ensure that everyone gets to download a certain amount per month.”

We told the spokesperson in vague terms about our friend, Mr. Organ, but they said: “Unfortunately it sounds like your friend was misinformed, we advise that everyone reads the terms of their package carefully and call us if there are any queries.”

Mr Organ agreed that in hindsight he probably should have checked the terms himself.

He admitted he’d been downloading videos as long as 25 minutes through a website many times a day. That’s sure to put a strain on your network, and, er…

While we doubt Organ will want his case notes brought up in court, the whole thing does bring that unlimited internet transparency into question, again.

Organ complained to Meteor, which took some pity and reduced the bill to a mere €400.
