Palm up for sale – report

Distressed smartphone manufacturer Palm is up for sale, according to a report on Bloomberg.

And other wires reckon that HTC, the Taiwanese manufacturer of smartphones, has already made an offer for Palm.

Bloomberg cited three people close to the situation as the source for its story, and said that Goldman Sachs was working with Palm to broker the deals, if they come off.

Palm’s Pre and Pixi phones haven’t done so well in recent times, prompting the company to take urgent steps to turn around the situation.

There’s likely to be a number of companies interested in Palm and its products with companies like Lenovo also said to be interested in a deal.

Palm’s share price rose sharply on Friday following speculation in the Taiwanese  Economic Daily News that HTC was sniffing around for a deal.
