Mobile phones are Stalin's Dream

Open Sauce guru Richard Stallman has emerged from his GNU ashram to attack the modern mobile phone.

After 30 years of successfully ridding the world of satanic proprietary software, Stallman thinks that the new threat to user freedom are smartphones.

After meditating under the Banyan Tree for 40 days and 40 nights where he was tempted by a thousand delights and terrors, Stallman has decided not to carry a mobile phone.

He claimed that mobiles were “Stalin’s dream” and the tools of Big Brother.

Stallman said that he was not going to carry a tracking device that records where he goes all the time, and he was not going to carry a surveillance device that can be turned on to eavesdrop.

For it is written in the Book of Stallman that only free software can save us from our technology. And mobile phones are not free.

However Stallman claimed that one of the great success stories of the Open Sauce movement was that it created Android. Not Google’s version of Android, but rather a third-party version of the mobile OS in which all proprietary software has been stripped out.

Of course there are a few problems with it. There are a few problems with the dialling library, although it worked in Europe.

Stallman said that phones that use only free software can protect themselves from the danger of electronic eavesdropping.

Well if you know what you are doing with the programming of course. You can write a bit of code that stops the phone being used to spy on you.

According to Network World, the statements were made by Stallman on a mobile phone he borrowed from a Spanish mate. It seems he still needed a bit of proprietary technology to communicate with the press.

Of course while he was online, the evil capitalist, Stalinist forces could use it to send their drones and sidewinder missiles to silence him. Fortunately, the connection dropped and the interview had to be finished by email.
