James Choi, a marketing strategy and planning team director for LG Electronics, told Pocket-lint that LG had a high expectation of Windows Phone 7, but from a “consumer point of view the visibility is less than it expected.”
It seems that LG has not given up on Redmond yet. He feels that it has a strong potential even though the first push wasn’t what everyone expected.
One of the problems that LG has is Microsoft’s “high tier” hardware requirements, which shuts it out of the mid-tier to low tier markets.
Once these requirements are changed then Redmond will do better he thinks.
Choi’s comments were short on any sales data. Redmond claims that 1.5 million Windows Phone 7 devices had been sold to retailers by manufacturers in the platforms’ first few weeks of release.
No one is saying how many phones ended up in the paws of the great unwashed.
Microsoft is planning a series of Windows Phone 7 updates that will introduce new features like cut-and-paste and tweak apps for better performance. Those updates will also reportedly close a loophole that allowed Windows Phone 7 owners to unlock their devices, according to the team behind the ChevronWP7 unlocking app.
