With a penetration rate of over 100 percent, native turf Taiwan is an important market for Cher Wang and co. It has started to work with Tsai International to open a HTC-brand flagship store, which according to the Taiwan Economic News, is the largest of its kind in Asia.
The store will be situated at the Guanghwa market in Taipei City, which is well known for ITC product retailing.
The store, which is in the third stage of building, consists of three floors of over 3,600 square feet, which will be used for demonstrating HTC products, on-spot sales, after-sale services, and educational training.
Of course this doesn’t come cheap with HTC throwing around $400,000 (NT$10 million) at the project. It’s not too worried, believing it’ll get all the money back within a year of opening. Reports say that by the end of this year, HTC will gradually open 10 mega stores in northern, central and southern Taiwan.
HTC`s sales of smartphones accounts for 30 percent of total sales in Taiwan, with that percentage expected to jump to 50 percent this year.
Meanwhile, HTC took another dip into software, spending $48 million (NT$1.4 billion) on wireless multimedia delivery company Saffron Digital. The acquisition will allow the company to move into new sectors in Asia including the game and music markets.
Of course this isn’t the first time HTC has got its finger in the software pie. It’s also got investments in NetQin, a mobile anti-virus company, and Abaxia, a mobile-phone software firm.
