Apple "Antennagate" settlement reached

A class action lawsuit targeting the antenna performance of Apple’s iPhone 4 has finally resulted in Job’s mob paying its users for its bad design.

It only applies to  US residents who bought Apple’s iPhone 4 as the rest of the world did not seem to think it was a good idea to sue Apple for designing a phone that cut out when you tried to use it to contact someone.

Anyway those in the land of the free will be allowed to have $15 in cash or a bumper case provided by Apple.

According to Cnet,  the settlement comes from 18 separate lawsuits that were merged. All claimed that Apple was misrepresenting and concealing material information in the marketing, advertising, sale, and servicing of its iPhone 4.

You can see details of the settlement at in the next few days. We checked but the site was not ready yet.

Apple has agreed to send out e-mails alerting original buyers to the settlement before April 30, 2012. Those in the US will have 120 days to claim their cash.

Apple said that the settlement covers a small number of customers who indicated that they experienced antenna or reception issues with their iPhone 4, and didn’t want to take advantage of a free case from Apple when it was being offered in 2010.

Jobs’ Mob will be pleased to see the back of Antennagate which showed the company at its worst. Shortly after the phone was released, owners started to show videos of themselves using the phone and it losing reception.

Apple said nothing about the problem because it meant admitting that the phone was imperfect. After three weeks it held a press conference. It offered customers a rubberband which was supposed to go around the phone and stop the problem.

However at the end of the day, the problem was caused by Apple going with a design which put the antenna around the outside of the case. Far from being revolutionary as it was claimed, the design had been rejected by other phone designed because it dropped calls.

When the Iphone 4S was released it had dropped the revolutionary design and had no problems. In many ways the Iphone 4s was an Iphone 4 which had been fixed.
