Top pornographers back Steve Jobs

While he wants their support like a dose of the clap, Apple supremo Steve Jobs has just received the support for his campaign against Flash from a leading pornographer.

The founder of Digital Playground told ConceivablyTech that it will abandon Flash as soon as the desktop browsers fully support HTML 5. Notice the wording “fully support”. It is a bit like saying we will dump Flash when hell freezes over, as it will be years before browsers fully support HTML5.

However, the implication is that the adult entertainment industry is not that happy with Flash and that Jobs has an important ally in the development of his glorious anti-Adobe vision.

The comments have been seized on by the tame Apple press saying that the porn industry will change the field much in the same way that it helped VHS win over Beta.

However, porn did little to help Blu-ray gain an advantage over HD-DVD although the industry was the first to stop producing HD DVDs. The porn industry uses a wide range of different video codecs to deliver its products and is not exactly standardised.

Ali Joone, founder and director of Digital Playground (DP), when pressed said that many of his fellow pornographers were unsure where to jump. To him “HTML 5 is the future” at least for his outfit.

But the fact that his company has beein offering content for the iPhone for two years might have something to do with it. However, Joone said that since Apple does not allow pornographic content in its App Store and since Safari does not run Flash, he has had to use HTML 5.

Joone uses Flash integration in Android, but he indicated that it is rather irrelevant to him whether Android will support Flash or not: “Mobile browsers run HTML 5 very well. Flash brings everything to a crawl and has an impact on battery life. With HTML 5, there is no reason to show our content in Flash.”
