RIAA revised settlement rejected by file sharer

Lawyers for Jammie Thomas-Rasset have rejected outright a settlement offer made by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after a judge earlier this week reduced a $2 million fine to $54,000.

The RIAA sent Thomas-Rasset an offer to pay $25,000 in settlement of the case, according to online tech site Cnet.

The RIAA had said that the $25,000 would go to a musician’s charity but that if Thomas-Rasset declined the offer, it would go back to the judge and challenge the ruling he made earlier this week.

The RIAA said in a prepared statement that it was a shame that Thomas-Rasset denied responsibility for her actions, pay the reduced amount and put it down to experience.

Thomas-Rasset’s lawyers were already prepared to challenge the reduced $54,000, Cnet said here.
