Microsoft keeps abreast on Apple over porn

Microsoft has decided that there is mileage in running an online store to appease Right Wing Religious loonies and Saudi Arabia.

Microsoft’s Marketplace which offers a range of software for Windows Mobile 6.x, which has been up and running for eight months, has decided to conduct a purge of everything that the bible belt thinks is bad.

It appears that it is following the same lines as Apple. There will be certification requirements that applications must meet to be allowed in the Marketplace.

This means no porn or sexually suggestive content. Microsoft is hoping that if it has the policy there at the start then no one will complain when porn is yanked from the store.

People on the ground say that it is real shock that Redmond is playing it safe when it comes to porn and violence, although equally it could have pushed itself as a store for grown ups. Having said that, its Kin phones are aimed at teens.
