Facebook is an appalling spy

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange claims that Facebook is helping US spooks spy on American citizens.

In a chat with Russia Today, he dubbed the social notworking site “the most appalling spying machine ever invented.”

He said that Facebook was the most comprehensive database about people, their relationships, their names, their addresses, their locations, their communications with each other, and their relatives, all sitting within the United States, all accessible to U.S. Intelligence, Assange said.

Facebook, Google, Yahoo have built-in interfaces designed specifically for US intelligence, he said.

Apparently the US spooks don’t need to ask a court for a subpoena they have an interface they have developed for US intelligence to use.

He added, while adjusting his tin foil hat, that while Facebook was not run by U.S. Intelligence, the spooks could bring legal and political pressure on the outfit. Since it is costly for them to hand out individual records, one by one, so they have automated the process.

When you add friends to Facebook they are doing free work for US intelligence agencies in building this massive database for them.

Assange does not offer any proof of his claims, so far no one has leaked details of such an interface. Facebook friendships are hardly a reliable database of links either. Friends are often just those who see a name and what to know what they are doing.

It is unlikely that terrorist cells are friends on Facebook.

Assange is currently awaiting extraction from England to Sweden on sexual assault charges.
