Engadget downs comments on site

A flurry of abuse on Engadget has caused the powers that be to down the comments section – they say temporarily.

In a notice on the website, the Engadget engineers said that comments in recent days had got totally out of hand.

It’s no more fun any more and the environment for users – surely readers – and editors had become “mean, ugly, pointless, and frankly threatening”.

A number of net hooligans had spoilt everything for the others and Engadget was going to “crank things down for a little bit” and let everyone cool off a tad.

Surely, the internet is the Tower of Babel (pictured), mentioned in a book or three from Western Asia. The notice is here.
