Hitachi is making big claims about its new hard drive – saying the Hitachi Ultrastar C10K600 is “the industry’s fastest and most power-efficient, 10K RPM, 6Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Enterprise hard drive.”
The hard drive measures 2.5-inches and can hold up to 600GB. According to the company it delivers up to 15 percent better random and 18 percent faster sequential performance than other comparable products on the market.
And it’s also energy efficient with tan operating power specification, “at least 22 percent lower than the competition.”
The Ultrastar C10K600 drive range comes in 300GB, 450GB and 600GB versions. The 2.5 inch measurements occupy 70 percent less physical space and consume 65 percent less power than Hitachi’s previous 3.5-inch enterprise hard drives.
It has a dual-port 6Gb/s SAS interface as well as a 64MB cache, which is designed to manage data and speed up the drive’s read/write response time. It also has an Advanced Power Management feature to give users a range of power mode options including random read/write operating power specification of 5.6 watts and idle mode of 3.1 watts.
In terms of security the range has optional Bulk Data Encryption for hard-drive-level data security.
