Gigabyte shows off three shiny new motherboards

Gigabyte is putting its three new AMD 800 series motherboards into the wild, which will feature all sorts of fancy bits to play with, all supporting the AMD Phenom II X6 six-core processors. They are the GA-890FXA-UD7, GA-880GMA-UD2H and GA-870A-UD3.

Overclockers and tech geeks will be foaming at the mouth to get their paws on the GA-890FXA-UD7, specifically modelled to appeal to the enthusiast community. It runs with an AMD 890FX and SB850 chipset combination and has support for 4-ay ATI CrossFireX on an XL-ATX form factor. It boasts an 8+2 CPU VRM power phase design which will run 140W CPU power easily. Since Gigabyte expects a lot of tinkering, it ships with Gigabyte 333 Onboard Acceleration, onboard debug LEDs and support for DDR3 1866. The UD7 comes with Hybrid Silent Pipe to keep the motherboard cool and quiet.

Gigabyte says it is targeting “media centre enthusiasts” with its UD2H motherboard, to power the kind of desktop you’d stick in the living room. The motherboard has an ATI Radeon HD 4250 integarted graphics card for high definition gaming, and has supportfor DirectX 10.1. It also has space to work with  VGA cards with ATI Hybrid CrossFireX.

All three new motherboards have fancy features integrated. Gigabyte’s newest has Auto Unlock built in, which effectively provides a CPU upgrade when running multi-threaded applications or multi-tasking. They also feature on/off charge for Apple products like the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, which lets users charge their devices through the USB port whether the PC is switched on or off.

This is boosted by USB 3.0 report via an onboard NEC uPD720200 host controller, which will provide transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps. This is again bolstered by the 3x USB Power Boost which delivers better compatibility and increased power for USB bus devices. Multiple RAID configurations, including RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 are all supported too.
