Dell has announced the availability of its latest ultra portable laptop in the Inspiron line, the M101z. It weighs under four pounds and is aimed squarely at students who don’t want to lug around a monster with their notebooks.
Under the bonnet it’s got a – surprise, it’s not Intel – AMD Athlon II Neo sprocessor with single and dual core options and integrated ATI graphics. It sports a 11.6 inch high definition WLED display which runs at a resolution of 1366 x 768.
The M101z can support up to 8GB of DDR3 memory running at 800MHz and a 320 GB SATA hard drive. It has two 1.5W speakers, three USB 2.0 connections and one USB Powershare to keep the charge reasonable and a 7-in-1 card reader. An external DVD/RW drive is available if you want to dish out the extra dosh. It packs a 6-cell battery as standard while a 9-cell will be available to bung in later on in the year.
10/100 Ethernet, wi-fi and Bluetooth 3.0 are all integrated. As is Dell’s flavour of the moment, it is making the laptop available in a few different colours, including Lotus Pink, Tomato Red, Peacock Blue and Clear Black – so that’s pink, red, blue and black, then.
It’s available in the UK now at Dell’s website here. Dell tells us that a choice of OS’ are available. Does that include Ubuntu? Prices start from £379 including VAT, delivery and a one year warranty, though you should expect to pay more if you want the works.
