Acer wants to top tablet market in two years

While Apple is in control of the market of netbooks without keyboards, or an earthly use, Acer’s boss things his outfit can knock it off its perch in two years.

In an interview with DigiTimes, Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci said that there will be increased competition for tablet PCs in the global market,

He said that while the iPad has gained successful sales performance and good market response, Apple is focused on the US market.

This will not work in emerging and other markets and this is where Acer will move in.

Lanci said that sales of iPad pushed forward very fast initially, but have now slowed. He sees Samsung and not Jobs’ Mob as being his outfit’s main rival.

But Acer has advantages because it has PC operational experience and a good channel.

Lanci thinks that tablets are being pushed by phone makers, like Apple as a big smartphone when they should be being seen as closer to PCs.

He thinks that tablets will end up being marketed through IT retail channels rather than handset channels.
