TSMC, which is the world’s largest contract chip maker, was having a do to mark the completion of a new building which has been imaginatively dubbed Phase 5.
Phase 5 is part of the less imaginatively titled Fab 12, in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
TSMC said that Phase 5 is expected to begin volume production in the third quarter of this year to satisfy urgent recent increases in customer demand.
However. the outfit is going to start construction of a new building, Phase 4 of Fab 14 in Tainan, Taiwan.
Work will start when the Lunar New Year holiday is over, as one would not want to anger the gods, and besides most of the staff are out celebrating.
The holiday ends February 19 in Taiwan, and the facility should be complete by the end of this year.
