TI buys its way into Chinese fab market

US chip giant Texas Instruments (TI) said that it has acquired a wafer fabrication plant in China which it will use to expand production of analogue devices.

The 200 millimetre fab was bought from Cension Semi Manufacturing and has a 120,000 square foot fab that will churn $1 billion in revenues and a 134,000 square foot fab for future production, as necessary.

Yes, it is the custom for US semiconductor companies to use the metric system for wafer sizes and the imperial system for area.

TI said it has steadily expanded its wafer production in the US, Japan and Germany  in the last two years.
