Samsung’s foundry business, imaginatively named Samsung Foundry, has produced a 20nm test chip with High-k Metal Gate, or HKMG, technology.
Customers already have access to the 20nm early access process design kit, for partners who are drawing up blueprints for next-gen products. Samsung used physical and processor IP from its friends in ARM to construct a prototype system on chip test.
The ARM IP is a Cortex -m0 processor twinned with Artisan prototype libraries, along with custom memories and test structures.
Samsung wants to be the importnt face of the 20nm process ego-system, so its customers will be able to peer into its factories and labs to get a good idea of where to go from here.
