Korean giant Samsung said it has introduced the first 20 nanometer NAND chips.
Its 32 gigabit MLC NAND is aimed at smartphones, embedded high performance IT applications and memory cards.
Samsung claims that the NAND has a 50 percent greater productivity level than 30 nanometer MLC NAND. Write performance on an SD card using the 20 nanometer memory is 30 percent faster than 30 nanometer Flash, it claims, and gives a read speeds of 20MB/s and write speeds of 10MB/s.
Memory cards using the 20 nanometer NAND will become available from 4GB to 64GB.
The next generation node exceeds what customers want for high performance high density NAND, said Samsung, strangely.
