Nvidia, obviously trying to minimise the amount of contact it is forced to have with the odious, unwashed masses of tech press, has instead opted to tweet out its news about upcoming Fermi cards.
“Fun Fact of the Week: GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470 will be the names of the first two GPUs shipped based on our new GF100 chip!” was the announcement seen on the twatterspehere, sending nerds into a Fermified frenzy.
After all, with its 512 cores divided up into 16 streaming processors with 32 cores each, spanking new GDDR5 memory and a whopping three billion transistors, what’s not to love? Except of course the fact that it has still failed to materialise, after months and months of waiting.
Of course, Nvidia is sticking to its story of having GF100 GPUs launch in Q1, so any day now, we presume.
What is a tad odd is that we’re only hearing about two flavours of Fermi thus far, the GTX 480 and 470, so, what, no high end GTX 490 to take on the cream of the Radeon 5000 series crop NV?
But Nvidia spinner, Bryan Del Rizzo told TechEye there would also be “other announcements forthcoming.” When pressed to give out more information, however, he replied “Sorry, I’m fresh out of bones today!”
