AMD intros more Phenom chips

Chip contender Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) said it has flesh out its range of microprocessors by introducing a fast dual core desktop processor at $99 and a four core Athlon II chip

The AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition – now there’s a snappy name – clocks 3.2GHz and is aimed at the budget market.

The Athlon II X4 635 CPU costs $119 and clocks at 2.9GHz with a 95W TDP. There’s now three models in the X4 quad core line – each has 2MB of L2 cache and are built using a 45 nanometer SOI process. The other members of the family, the 630 and the 620, clock at 2.8GHz and 2.6GHz respectively.

AMD also sells two “energy efficient” CPUs in the family, with a TDP (thermal design power) rating of 45W.
