TSMC joins GloFo, Intel, others at SEMATECH

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is getting up close and personal with SEMATECH to help develop semiconductor technology.

TSMC has become a member of the consortium of semiconductor manufacturers in a bid to  help solve challenges the industry faces. One of TSMC’s first jobs will be to advise on
semiconductor research and development for IC process technologies for 20nm generation.

This will include looking at extreme ultra-violet (EUV) lithography, 3D interconnects, metrology, novel materials and device structures.

TSMC is also looking at the transition to 450mm wafer size.

TSMC joins others including GlobalFoundries, HP, IBM, Intel, Samsung, UMC, and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) all putting their two pence worth in.
