Microsoft, SAP sued over software code

A case started in a Virginia district court alleging that Microsoft, SAP and Bamboo Solutions breached a patent called Code Server.

The case was brought by REC Software USA Inc, and alleges that US patent 5,854,936 was used in products and in services by all three companies.

REC said in its complaint that Stephen Pickett, the president of REC, invented a technique for associating the modules of a multi-module computer program. The patent was issued to him on the 29th of December 1998.

Bamboo, it’s alleged breached the patent in its product called Sharepoint Project Manager Central.   Microsoft is alleged to have breached the patent in Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP and other Microsoft products.

SAP breached the patent, it’s alleged, in its product and services known as Netweaver.

REC wants a jury to find that Bamboo, SAP and Microsoft have breached his patent and wants damages.
