IBM and SAP work together again

IBM logoBig Blue said it is working with German software firm SAP intended to let customers handle vast volumes of data.

The Power Systems will be provided by IBM and are intended for SAP’s HANA family of products.

IBM believes that “commodity servers” – that’s X86 servers to you and me – are stretched to the limit by workloads both in the cloud and sited in the enterprise itself.

Doug Balog, general manager of IBM Power Systems, said: IBM Power System Solution Editions for SAP HANA are tailored to deliver enterprise class capabilities to clients’ growing core systems reliability expectations.”

IBM and SAP trialled the systems last year.

Two configurations will be available, one using the IBM S824 with 24 Power 8 processor cores and supporting up to one terabyte of memory.

The second is based around the E870 with 40 Power 8 processor cores and supporting up to 2YB of memory.
