A massive treasure trove of pictures from Getty Images is being opened up to people worldwide as long as the application is non-commercial.
According to the Wall Street Journal, people using Twitter, Tumblr and their own personal bogs will be able to embed the pictures into WordPress and the like.
Getty will open up 35 million of its 60 million images, said the Journal.
So will this destroy Getty’s biz model? Apparently not. The report said that the move will open new avenues for its business. Getty is able to track its images worldwide and the speculation is that it may have a cunning plan to throw adverts to the world+dog, much like YouTube does.
