Cisco appoints newly fledged CEO

Cisco's Chuck RobbinsJohn Chambers is to step down as long standing CEO on July 26th next and the board of Cisco has appointed Chuck Robbins as his replacement.

Chambers will become executive chairman on the same date and will continue in his capacity as the chairman of the Cisco board.

Chambers eulogised Robbins, saying it had appointed “a strong leader” when Cisco is in a “very strong position”.

Robbins has been at Cisco since 1997 and his current job is as senior VP of worldwide operations. He championed Cisco’s channel programme

Chambers has been CEO of Cisco since 1995 and jointed the company in 1991 in charge of sales.
