The self-indulgent waste of broadcasting space is going to be called by the original, super cool, name “Planet of the Apps” and is about developers working to make apps for Jobs’ Mob. Reality TV is usually a sign that broadcasters have run out of ideas and want to make super-cheap shows normally with actors pretending to be real people.
Apple has shown that it is going to actually use real people, which given that they are going to be developers should make them as telegenic as Michael Grove. It has launched an open casting call for developers and created a website where you can make a submission if you want to participate.
Apple has teamed up with Propagate, a new production company created by the guy behind “The Biggest Loser.”
The description of the show says: “Join us on the search for the next great app in a new original series. Those selected will have the chance to receive hands-on guidance from some of the most influential experts in the tech community, featured placement on the App Store, and funding from top-tier VCs.”
It is really weird that Apple thinks that people are going to want to watch this. If they do seriously think it then it shows how a brand of thinking which is so incestuous that even the Hapsburg dynasty would be impressed.
The winners potentially get mentorship from tech and entertainment “experts” and featured placement in the Apple App Store, and those chosen for the final round will get to “meet with top-tier VCs investing up to $10m over the course of the season.”
The show will shoot in Los Angeles and is aiming for release in 2017. Hopefully the world will have ended by then.
